Disease caused by Virus
Did you know that cough colds, flu, most sore throats, and bronchitis caused by a virus? Did you know that antibiotics are powerless against viruses? That's right. And, using antibiotics when you have a virus more harm than good.
The use of antibiotics when not needed increases your risk of suffering from an infection that can not be treated with antibiotics.
If you have a cough and cold or flu, antibiotics are useless to you!
Antibiotics treat bacterial infections, not viral infections such as:
- Cough and cold or flu
- Most coughs and bronchitis
- Sore throat (which is not caused by streptococcal bacteria), or
- Runny nose
Using antibiotics for viral infections, such as cough, runny nose, cough, flu, or bronchitis, will not:
- Cure infection
- Prevent others from contracting the disease, or
- Helping you feel better
What can you do to protect yourself and your child? If used correctly, you have to do the best for your health and family, and health of the people around you.
Talk to your doctor about antibiotic resistance.
If you are prescribed antibiotics, you must drink as recommended by your doctor. Spend all medications as prescribed, even if you already feel better. If treatment is stopped too soon, bacteria can remain and attack you again.
This rule also applies to children. Make sure your child is taking all medications as prescribed, even when he already felt better.
Dispose of medicine that remains after you spend the medicine prescribed by a physician.
